For years I suffered from microaggressions in my community. At first, I just ignored them but with each microaggression, I felt reduced or lesser than others. Ultimately I created this series to educate my community and help me heal from my trauma. Fragments I sculpted by hand in clay would be cast in marble dust. Then, the piece is chiseled away.
Ultimately the work is installed directly in places where I experienced the microaggression. A plate is left on the ground with the microaggression experiences and telling about the series. Often I will sit near the plate and listen to my communities responses as they view the work and comprehend what the pieces are about.
